They say it has been the toughest year in real estate since the stock market crash of 1987, but that has meant little to Anne Duncan's 'Rookie of the Year' Jamie Morrison. When Jamie decided to enter residential sales at a time when prices were taking a tumble, some of his friends thought perhaps he should wait a while. Seeking reassurance from Principal Anne Duncan, whose advice was simple; 'Anytime is a good time to start in real estate, the market is what you make of it, but if you can make it now you can make it anytime.' This advice was well received with Jamie proceeding to sell over 30 houses in his first nine months, during a period where sales volumes
were down more than 50% and prices were plummeting.
If you ask Jamie why he has managed to shine in a challenging market, he will tell you about a drive and passion to succeed, but places strong emphasis on support from his family, friends, and colleagues. 'Simply being good at what you do is not enough, family and friends provide the crucial balance in successful business, along
with the emotional factor needed in bringing people together.'
Some of the best advice Jamie got when starting out was to choose with care the agency he wished to represent. Anne Duncan's team approach has been vital to Jamie's incredible start. A turning point for Jamie was when he attended the REINZ Superstars Breakfast last year. A panel of seven market leaders were asked to host a question and answer session for REINZ members. Anne Duncan was one of the panel. 'Realising I had my own superstar on call 24/7 to help me succeed was just fantastic!' Jamie adds.
A willingness to form a strategic business partnership with colleague Vincent Barnao in the marketing of the Point Chevalier area has been of great advantage. 'Working as part of a strong team is always more productive,' Jamie concludes.
This year continues to be productive with Jamie averaging over a sale a week since returning from the Christmas break. 'We are incredibly short of properties at present with my buyer book overflowing. Sales are good, but I could be selling more if we had
it to sell,' Jamie says.
If you need someone with fresh drive and enthusiasm then give Jamie a call.
